Frequently Asked Questions
What Makes RXS Different?
There are dozens of talented bands in San Antonio and the surrounding area. We know you have a varied and vast choice when you’re looking for one. So why should you choose RXS? Of course, we have an abundance of musical talent. However, we think the following points mark us as something special.
This is a business, not a hobby.
We recognize that the clubs and venues hiring us are running a business that represents their livelihood. When we’re hired to play, we are effectively employees of the business. It is incumbent on us to show up prepared, on time and behave in a professional manner.
We understand business.
We’ve worked our entire life for Fortune 100 companies. We understand what a commitment means, what it means to give your best.
We play for your establishment, not our ego.
You want us to turn down? We can do that. You want a specific timing on our sets? We can do that. You want us to hold the volume down at the beginning of the night? We can do that. You want us set up by a specific time before customers begin arriving? We can do that.
We tailor our PA and sound for your venue .
Our Front of House system is modular. For small locations, we can set up a minimal system of a single subwoofer and two small satellite speakers. For most clubs, we use a pair of subwoofers and a pair of tops. For large venues, we use two subs and two tops per side. This allows us to provide excellent sound while maintaining reasonable volume levels.
We have no amps on stage facing the audience.
Unlike most bands, we have no instrument amplifiers on stage aimed at the audience. Our instruments go directly into the PA and, with the exception of the drums, the musicians hear them through the stage monitors, which do not face the audience. This provides a significant improvement in the control of our volume level.
We have a dedicated sound/light person.
There are four musicians on stage. However, we have a fifth member controlling the volume and mix of our Front of House sound using a software-controlled mixer. This mixer is run from a computer tablet, enabling our sound person to mix our sound while standing at any point in the room. This assures a more flexible, real-time mix that sounds good from all points in the room.
You know whom to talk to in order to turn us up or down.
One of the first things we do when arriving at a venue is to introduce our sound person. During the course of the night, should you want more or less volume, all you have to do is tell the sound person and they will take care of it. Unlike typical bands with cranked amps on stage, almost our entire sound is coming purely from the Front of House system. Thus, turning down the volume can literally be as easy as just turning a knob.
We are not a one-dimensional guitar band.
Yes, Rock and Roll is all about guitars. But listening to that same guitar player all night long can get a little boring. RXS addresses this by employing guitar synthesizers and guitar modeling. That horn section you’re hearing? That’s the guitar player. The big Hammond organ sound bubbling in back of the bass riff? That’s the guitar player. Those two- and three-part guitar harmonies played in real time? That’s the guitar player. People frequently tell us we sound like a much larger band.
Does RXS Perform at Private Functions?
Yes, RXS will be pleased to provide the entertainment at your private event. However, there are some conditions that must be met in order to assure that we can produce a quality performance. A list of these is provided here.
Private Event Requirements
⦁ The space where the band is to set up should have a minimum width of 20' and minimum depth of 10'.
⦁ Wood, concrete or other level, smooth, solid floor is required for the area where the band is to set up. RXS cannot perform on bare ground. The floor must be completely dry with no damp areas or standing water.
⦁ Protection from the elements must be provided. The area where RXS is to set up must be covered in such a fashion as to protect the band's equipment from inclement weather. Additionally, during periods when the ambient temperature is expected to exceed 85 degrees, shade must be provided for the performance area to protect the band and its equipment from both overhead and late afternoon sun.
⦁ The band requires at least two separate 15-amp circuits available within 20 feet of the setup location.
⦁ The band must be able to park and unload equipment no further than 100 feet from the stage. The path from the unloading area to the stage must be clean, smooth, dry and capable of supporting two- and four-wheeled carts to allow movement of equipment with reasonable effort.
⦁ RXS will require a minimum of two hours of setup time, so access to the band setup area must be available at least two hours prior to the start of the performance.
⦁ RXS will make every effort to keep their overall volume at reasonable levels for a classic rock band, but is not responsible for any fees or fines resulting from violation of local noise ordinances or complaints from neighboring homes or businesses.
⦁ Unless special arrangements are made beforehand, RXS will not allow individuals unknown to the band to "sit in" on performances.
⦁ Only members of the band and individuals specifically designated by the hiring party are allowed on the stage.
